The Kloroi, or Greens, are responsible for keeping the people entertained and, as such, complacent. They perform well enough at the first task, but whenever rabble is roused, there is usually a Green at the forefront. Their resources and popularity, however, have made the Kloroi difficult to put down, even for their rivals the Blues.
The Kloroi are primarily an artists’ guild, responsible for some of the city’s finest works. Their proudest treasure is a statue of the Greek goddess Athena, standing in the Principal Forum. The Kloroi purchased and transported the statue from Athens in the eleventh century, at great expense. It is a replica of a statue by the classical Greek sculptor Phidias, though the Kloroi have attempted to circulate rumors that it is the original, lost some five centuries ago.
The Kloroi also oversee less wholesome forms of entertainment, especially drugs and prostitution. To their credit, they have access to the most exquisite herbs from the East, and a Green brothel is synonymous with “high-class.” In addition, the Kloroi have a reputation as a group not to be crossed; while they are less overt with their demands than their rivals the Kyanoi, at least the Blues give second chances. A person who crosses the Greens simply disappears, often within a day.
